from uhuru. In one episode of Star Trek Spock says Uhura means "freedom", which is untypical of him because he should have known that this is not entirely correct (the last letter is wrong). However, he was under the influence of an alien being at the time. Uhura's first names, PendaNyota, are both Swahili.
